Designing
Training Modules for School Directors
Morocco
May – September 2003
The
Morocco Education for Girls (MEG) Project operated in Morocco
in two phases- from 1996 to 2001 and from 2001 to 2003. The
first phase was dedicated to developing a school environment
that encourages learning and enlists community support for
education through the development and testing of training guides
for pre-service and in-service teachers. The second phase focused
on the national diffusion of these training guides and methodologies.
The MEG project was deemed successful, resulting in increased
girls’ enrollment rates in the 2001/2002 school year.
As
a follow-on to the Morocco Education for Girls Project, BEPS
is currently designing two additional training
modules
for school directors for the Ministry of National Education
and Youth. BEPS will assess the needs, develop specific topics
for the module, and will then pre-test and revise the modules
according to feedback from the field. Core teams of trainers
will be trained to be able to replicate the training for school
directors throughout the country. These school directors will
then be equipped to promote a healthy school environment that
promotes learning, involves communities in education and results
in greater participation of girls in education.
BEPS is also
currently collecting, processing and analyzing data. The team
will first analyze school data
collected at
the 33 MEG pilot schools as well as analyzing data on the MEG
project training modules. The results of this analysis will
be used to better inform the planning of educational programming
in Morocco.
Through this follow-on project, the impact
and lessons learned of the Morocco Education for Girls Project
are integrated into
future educational support to Morocco, and school directors
will be able to promote learning, community involvement and
girls’ participation in education throughout the country.
