South America MapSponsored by USAID’ s Access to Bilingual Intercultural Education Project, The First Hemispheric Conference on Indigenous Education was held in Guatemala City from July 25 to 27, 2001. Practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and donors from several countries convened for three days to exchange experiences and best practices in the areas of teacher training, curriculum and materials development and dissemination, community participation, preschool preparation, and policy as related to meeting the needs of indigenous peoples within a multicultural, multilingual environment.

The BEPS team compiled and produced conference proceedings and captured presentation highlights for this historic meeting.
